Courses for Groups
A full Health & Fitness course lasts for 6 sessions. Each session lasts for one and a half hours. Each course begins with an introductory session, which it is essential to complete before moving on to the rest of the course.
Courses for Individuals
Tailor-made Health & Fitness courses are also available to individuals on a one-to-one basis with an instructor giving you the flexibility to decide when you want to train and for how many sessions.
Regular Nordic Walking Groups
Once you’re proficient with the technique and there are enough Nordic Walkers in a given local area, you will be able to take advantage of regular one hour Nordic Walks.
Courses for existing Walking Scheme Leaders
One-to-one courses are also available to experienced (natural) walking scheme leaders interested in becoming a Nordic Walking Activity Leader to lead other Nordic walkers on regular Nordic Walking for Health Nordic walks.
On all courses, you will be required to complete, sign and date a simple health questionnaire prior to your introductory session. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before taking part in a new exercise, should you be concerned in any way.
Beginners are best taught on a flat, firm surface, e.g. seafront promenades, local parks and running tracks. Course sessions for groups beyond the introductory one are then available on rough tracks and footpaths, in woodland and over hilly ground. If you are having a one-to-one session, feel free to select your own route or terrain.
Introductory Sessions - payment is due at the beginning of the session
Full Courses - payment must be made in advance when booking a place on a course. See below for more information on costs for group and one-to-one courses.
Exel Nordic Walker Trainer poles are provided free of charge.
A 100% cancellation fee is applicable when clients cancel a session less than 12 hours before it is due to start. A 50% cancellation fee is applicable when clients cancel a session between 12 and 24 hours before it is due to start.

To gain maximum benefit from Nordic walking for health and fitness reasons, it is important to learn good, effective technique. The aim of the technique is to optimise upper body effort and slightly exaggerate the human body’s natural walking motion without changing its natural rhythm.
Go to The Basics for more information on the basics of Nordic walking technique.
Go to The Glove-Straps for information on how to fit and adjust the glove-straps.

When emailing to book, remember to indicate which location(s) you are interested in.
Places are limited to a maximum of 8 people.
Once you have notified Nordic Walking for Health of your interest, you will be added to the waiting list for a taster session in the area(s) you indicate. Shortly before a weekend day listed above, you will receive a group email to see if you're available on that day. If enough people are available in the same area, you will get a confirmation email, no later than the day before, giving final arrangements for the session, including where to meet.
Nordic Walking for Health reserves the right to postpone sessions if the weather is very poor and to cancel sessions if too few places have been booked to make a group viable. In both cases, you will be able to re-book.
Booking is also open for One-to-One/One-to-Two Sessions in Brighton & Hove, Lewes, Newhaven and Seaford and the Ashdown Forest on weekdays, including tailor-made programmes near where you/your family live and early morning starts, and at weekends, whenever group taster sessions do not take place.
